vCal Import Examples

There are as many different import options are there are different calendar programs on the market. Here are but a few examples, using common Windows® and Web programs. If you have specific questions regarding a calendar program, please contact OPAS technical support.

Importing a csv file into Outlook

CSV files are speically designed for Outlook and take advantage of Outlook’s Reminder, “Show Time As...” and Category functionality.

  • In Outlook, choose the File menu item and then Import and Export
  • At the next screen, choose Import from another program or file and click Next.
  • Choose Comma Separated Values (Windows) and click Next.
  • Navigate to comma-separated-values file you created with the utility, and indicate how Outlook should manage duplicate entries. Click Next.
  • Indicate the calendar into which the OPAS activities should be imported. Note that Outlook will not let you import to a public folder. Click Next.
  • Outlook will automatically map the fields so you need only click Finish at the final import screen.

Each OPAS activity will be an appointment in Outlook. Program information will be in the Description field.


Importing an iCal file into a Google Calendar

In your Google Calendar, click Add in the Other calendars area and choose “Import Calendar”

At the next screen, follow the three steps shown on the screen: click the Browse button and navigate to the iCal file you created. Select the Google Calendar into which you would like the file to be imported and finally, click the Import button.

 

Activities from OPAS will be imported to your Google Calendar and when you click an item link, the program and other details will appear:


Importing a vCal file into the Palm Desktop software

Start the Desktop Software that came with your PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) and with which you synchronize your PDA.

  • Open the Calendar area of the software
  • Select File | Import
  • You will need to import the ‘file of type’ vCalendar (also shown as vCal and .vcs)
  • Navigate to the location of the file you saved in the previous step
  • Click OK or Import

The PDA Desktop Software will import the schedule and programs you specified.

Each item will have a Date, Start/End time and Location. The Note field for each activity will display the Conductor, Program and Soloist(s).

You can now synchronize and/or download this schedule with your handheld device (PDA).
