AskOPAS Integration

AskOPAS is a stand-alone utility that complements the built-in search engines of OPAS. It provides a ‘plain language’ way to ask the OPAS database complex questions much like the existing Advanced Search area of OPAS, but without selecting individual tables and fields.

Beginning with OPAS version 9, AskOPAS now runs from within OPAS itself. The primary benefit to this arrangement is that AskOPAS search results are sent ‘back’ to OPAS so you can print any of your OPAS reports and see details on the results of the search.

How it works

Open any of the OPAS program areas that support AskOPAS: Works, Dates or the Address Books - a new Ask OPAS icon appears a the top of the screen.

Launch AskOPAS

The appropriate AskOPAS window appears in the upper left of your computer screen. OPAS istelf waits in the background while you fill in your search criteria.

When AskOPAS has found what you were looking for, it prompts you to return to OPAS and load the results:

Back in OPAS, the results of your search are shown on the LIST screen just as if they had come from any OPAS search. You can navigate through any screen, run any report, execute data functions, etc.

What you need

  • OPAS version 9.22.052 or above
  • AskOPAS – download this Zip file and extract it to the OPAS directory on your server. The zip file will make a new folder called AskOPAS and put the necessary files into place.
  • An AskOPAS license. The download above will put a free 100-search license in place. AskOPAS is an add-on, so a permanent license with unlimited searches will be sent upon payment of a modest license fee
  • Modification of your OPAS.INI file. This is required so OPAS knows that it should look for AskOPAS in certain program areas. Just add the line AskOPASPath = AskOPAS to the [PATH] section of OPAS.INI. AskOPAS will be in place the next time you start OPAS.

Adding AskOPAS to your OPAS installation does not require changes to individual workstations, changes to any registry nor changes to any Windows System folders.

Read/print these instructions in more detail.
