Find / Replace Text

Description

Similar to the Find/Replace tool found in all Windows programs, this function allows you to substitute or delete information in any of the text fields found in the Works and Date-Works areas.

Download

Click here to download the required files and save them to your computer

Installation

Double-click the file you downloaded and extract (unzip) it to the OPAS\PROGRAM folder on the Server. Restart OPAS on your own PC (there is no need to restart the server).

To run..

Download/Print the instructions in PDF format here

Open the Works area of OPAS and filter for any number or combination of compositions to be affected.

Click the Function icon (the little gear wheel, second from the left at the top of the main OPAS screen) and choose Find / Replace Text. Fill out the dialog as follows:

1. The field to be searched -- OPAS will search text and note fields only.
2. The text to be found (do not include quotes or wildcard characters)
3. Indicate if the text should be found anywhere in the field, or if the text should constitute the entire field. Unlike 'green screen' searches, the OPAS find/replace tool does not use wildcards.
4. Indicate the text that should replace the found text
5. Indicate whether the 'replacement text' should replace only the 'found text', or if the 'replacement text' should become the entire contents of the field.

In the example above the word "Opus" in every Print Title would be changed to "Op." so

Concerto No. 1 in C major for Piano and Orchestra, Opus 15
... would become ...
Concerto No. 1 in C major for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 15

Click OK to run the function.

Change Work Performance History

Description

Moves the performance history of a composition to a different composition of your choosing. This is often done when a work gets inadvertently duplicated

This funcion is best started in the Works area. The example below uses the Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1. There are 2 instances of the work in this OPAS database. The first (top line) is an incorrect or duplicate entry. The second (highlighted in yellow) is the proper entry. To remove the incorrect version of the Cello Concerto (the top line) you must first move its performance history to the second work. OPAS will not let you delete a work when there is something (such as performances) attached to the work.

Clicking the Perf. Hist. tab for the top work reveals 15 performances assigned to it. To move these 15 performances of the first work to the second work:

1. While on the Perf. Hist. screen, click the Linked Data icon at the top of the OPAS screen (the 'handshake' icon), or press the F11 key on your keyboard. From the resulting pop-up menu, select Date-Works… this will open the OPAS Date-Works area to the List screen and load each performance of the work

2.From this list screen click the Function icon (the 'cogged wheel' icon second from the left circled in red above) and choose the function called Change Work. Then click the large Start Function button3. OPAS will display the work select screen. Choose the Composer at the top and the work to which you wish to transfer the performance history. Then click OK. The highlighted work is the work to which the performance history will be moved.

OPAS will display a confirmation window to ensure that you are moving or changing the performance history from the first work to the second. Click Yes at this window/prompt

4. The progress bar will show the movement of the function. When the function is complete, click the Close button to close the function window. OPAS and will then display a 'No Records Found!' message. This is because the original search that brought you to this List screen (all performances of “Concerto for Cello No. 1") is no longer valid since you moved the performances to the “Concerto, Cello, No. 1, Op. 107” work.

5. Press any key or click your mouse, then click the green OK in the lower left-hand corner of the screen to return to the Works area of OPAS.

6. Finally, simply click the green Refresh icon at the top of the Perf. Hist. screen for the composition, and the performance history will be blank.

If you look up the second 'version' or instance of the work in the database, the performance history will now be attached to it.
